ABSTRACT: Drought is a complex natural hazard that can have devastating impacts on human life. It can be regarded as caused by natural climatic variability leading to precipitation deficits that propagates through the hydrological cycle and subsequently can lead to streamflow and groundwater depletion. There are lots of methods for evaluating meteorological drought. In this paper is used methods based on precipitation and air temperature, because they are the most important and the most useful components describing climatic conditions. I used 3 methods namely Rain's factor according to Lang, classification from moisture point of view and mean moisture’s sureness according to Minář. The assessment of the meteorological drought is based on meteorological data, namely air temperature from Sabinov – Jakubovany gauging station and annual precipitation from Vyšný Slavkov gauging station. There was analysed statistical period of years 1975-2004.
