ABSTRACT: Department of Hydrogeology, Comenius University in Bratislava took part by APVV-0268-06 project with name “Contamination generated by Sb mining in Slovakia: Evaluation and strategies for remediation” from year 2007 till 2009. One goal of the project was hydraulic and geochemical model creation for solving of transport and distribution of contaminants in water. Four model scenarios was conducted with help of transport model as scenario describing current state of pollution, state with no pollution in the river, state with partial geochemical barrier and barrier through full thickness of aquifer. From monitoring and modeling results arise that pollution is distributed by surface and groundwater where main source of pollution is contaminated water discharging from mine adits, it is necessary to catch and clean contaminated water out flowing from mine workings, minimize leakage of rain water through tailing ponds (clay layer, drainage). Geochemical barrier constructed in aquifer could improve groundwater quality.
