ABSTRACT: The article presents results of the hydrogeological research of the area of Vysoké Tatry Mts. and Západné Tatry Mts. for the period between 1971 and 1997. Based on the many years lasting hydrogeologicai tests and obtained values of specific groundwater runoff the condition of groundwater circulation, regime, and permeability of aquiferous complexes are determined. The hydrogeological characteristics of the individual lithological - strati graphic units are presented. The transmissivity coefficients (T) of weathering and unloading zone of crystalline rocks and glacial deposits were determined. Hydrogeological ground water types and groundwater mineralization was determined for the individual complexes. The present state of groundwater utilization of the area is described with perspective for the future utilization.
