ABSTRACT: The presented article briefly characterizes the most significant achievements of hydrogeology in Slovakia in the past century. The majority of the article is dedicated to the expected courses of development of hydrogeology within the framework of the Earth sciences as well as to trends and tasks of hydrogeology in Slovakia after the year 2000. The authors point out to optimization of ground water exploitation with emphasis on an ecological bearing capacity in next years. In the article there are briefly characterized the main tasks fo hydrogeology in the coming years.
