ABSTRACT: Methodology of hydrogeochemistry map compilation at a scale 1:50000 and the results of hydrogeochemical mapping of five selected regions of the Slovak republic during 1994- 1999 are presented in the paper. Hydrogeochemical maps are created simultaneously with the basic hydrogeological maps. Presented hydrogeochemical maps of the three mountai neo us regions - Čierna Hora, Veľká Fatra-eastern part and Spišsko-gemerské rudohorie-northern part represent the areas without significant anthropogenic influence on groundwater quality. High degree of anthropogenic contamination and negative qualitative parameters of groundwaters were observed in two lowland regions - Podunajská nížina-north-eastern part and Záhorská nížina-southern part. The main objectives of the paper are twofold: i) to describe the chemical composition, processes of formation and genetic types of groundwaters; ii) to evaluate the contamination degree of selected individual hydrogeochemical groups of groundwaters in the observed regions.
