ABSTRACT: The submitted paper deals with application of mathematical modelling to the problems of preventive groundwater protection, in this case mainly from the quantitative standpoint. Complicated systems of mutually interfering hydraulic stresses imposed on saturated hydrogeological structure cannot be correctly analyzed by the means of usual analytical methods. In the paper the application of numerical modelling (MFD) using MODFLOW in GMS 2.1 in the area of saturated sandy lentils in pelitic facies of Lower Miocene of Carpathian foredeep (confined aquifer, thickness of saturated structure approx. 100m) is presented. The saturated system was tested by long-term pumping test performed on 6 interfering boreholes.
