ABSTRACT: Among the uniquenesses of Bratislava area belong open water tables in the centre of city and on the outskirts too. The Department of Hydrogeology, Faculty of Natural Sciences has monitored the quality of water in six gravel pits (Čunovo, Draždiak, Štrkovec, Pasienky, Zlaté Piesky, Vajnory), in one pond (Železná studienka) and in one drainage dicht (Chorvátske rameno) since 1994. In the article were evaluated the basic chemical composition of water, its oxygen regime and organic pollution (common organic compounds, group s of specific organic compounds and individual organic compounds). Organic compounds in surface water and ground water are the consequence of anthropogenic pollution of environment, of high habitans concentration and of industrial activities. The observing of organic compounds in water is important from their significant influence on the human helth point of view.
