ABSTRACT: Impact of the long-running exploitation of the mineral raw material is manifested by quantitative and qualitative changes in the whole hydrological cycle and within all components of the environment. Contaminated rainfall influence quality of the ground and surface waters, rising drainage of the area caused change of the outflow conditions, subsequently new developed aquatic areas influence evaporation and absent streams in the valleys change landscape ecosystem. Contamination of the ground water have not regional character, this is only dotted. Surface waters are contaminated on the bigger areas. Heavy metal s and sulphates are the main contaminants of the mining activities. The most contaminated part of the environment are the soils and the streem sediments. The soils are prevalently contaminated by the emissions, and the streem sediments by surface waters and dotted sources of the pollution. There are 7 contaminated areas, corresponding with mining activity areas. The most contaminated areas are Rudňany valley, Hornád valley and Slovinky valley. In mentioned many parts of environment are contaminated (soiis, streem sediments and surface waters). The next polluted area is the Novoveská Huta area with high radioactive pollution of dumps and mine waters.
