ABSTRACT: Examples of past and current activities dealing with Contaminated Land (focused on Former Ecological Damages) in the Czech Republic are discussed. It is obvious that a lot of significant and remarkable results have been achieved in field of Investigation, Risk Assessment, Prevention, Monitoring and Contaminated Land Remediation in the Czech Republic within the last almost ten years, particularly due to a new Water Act (254/2001 Coll.) implementation, affordable financial funding and technological development mainly in full scale in situ technologies (e.g. Permeable Reactive Walls, Steam Enhanced Extraction, In Situ Chemical Oxidation). This progress is in very good comparison with new-fashioned achievements in other advanced countries in the U.S.A. and/or European Union (EU). In despite of it, existing practical experience shows a further need of comprehensive Investigation, Risk Analysis and Remediation. It seems to be that even more sophisticated and cost–effective mainly integrated enhanced biodegradation decontamination and/or phytoremediation techniques altogether with in implementation of new remedial efficiency diagnostic tools (e.g. molecular biology oriented, isotope techniques, photo-detection) will be a task for coming future.
