ABSTRACT: The Domica Cave represents an important fluviokarstic cave with sporadic groundwater streams in Slovenský kras Mountains. The main goal of this article is to characterize the chemical composition of cave water. The results of 42 previous and 48 new chemical analyses of groundwater are evaluated and their quality is assessed. The saturation of studied samples for calcite and dolomite was evaluated, too. The cave water represents water with atmospheric genesis, with carbonate mineralization. Water from cave groundwater streams and dripping cave water are evaluated individually. Cave water of horizontal circulation according to predominant ions (over 20 meq %) belongs to Ca-HCO3 or Ca-Mg-HCO3 types. Dominant ions are HCO3- anions and Ca2+ cations. Dripping water has more stable water chemistry than water of groundwater stream. Dripping water represents Ca-HCO3 type with dominant ions HCO3- and Ca2+. The water quality is sometimes affected by the local pollution what is documented by higher level of CODMn, NH4+, Na+, K+ and NO3-.
