ABSTRACT: Drought is currently one of the most studied natural hazards, and special attention has focused on the consequences of meteorological droughts which are reinforced by human activities. Results from the study of drought occurrence and its temporal propagation in the upper Nitra depression are presented herein. Drought in discharges, base flow and groundwater level was analyzed at the two gauging profiles of Kľačno and Nedožery. Results showed that each drought is unique and that there is no pattern to describe temporal and spatial drought propagation. Although discharge and base flow drought periods most often occur in the summer-autumn period, groundwater-level drought often starts later in the autumn and lasts up to winter or the next year spring months.
