ABSTRACT: History documents that each nation values and highlights their most valuable assets and those which differentiate it from other nations. Hence, Slovakia treasures its mineral waters which form the basis of its spa industry, because of their diversified chemical properties and healing influence. The Slovak balneology has a long tradition, with international recognition of its beneficial effects on human health from time immemorial. Few spas in the world can claim such popularity with patients suffering organic motor disabilities. The old traditions of the Piešťany Spa therapy and its successes are mainly based on therapeutic usage of its natural healing resources. The natural healing sources in Piešťany emanate from sulphate-hydrocarbons, calcium-sodium and sulphur contents. Its waters are hypotonic with temperature ranging from 67 to 69 °C, containing approximately 1,500 mg·L-1 of total dissolved solids. Application of Piešťany mud is an inseparable part of its spa treatment, because the Piešťany mud is world renowned as a healing agent for both children and adults. The thermal water's healing effects are gained from pool and tub baths, and the pool spas combine mud and mirror baths.
